Not verified yet (not yet covered). We haven't verified the business rules for Gambian passport holders, and we don't publish rules we haven't checked against an official source. A rule that is awaiting verification or not yet covered is not a negative visa decision: it only means we haven't confirmed it on an official source yet. Until then, see immigration.govt.nz.

Transit through New Zealand

Option 1
Embassy visaTransit (changing flights in New Zealand)

Transit visa required to change flights in New Zealand

Gambia is not a visa waiver or transit visa waiver country for New Zealand, so you usually need a New Zealand Transit Visa even to change planes at Auckland. Exceptions in the transit-visa waiver rules include holding another current New Zealand visa, travelling to or from Australia with a current Australian visa, or holding Australian permanent residence.

Conditions

  • Auckland International Airport only: stay in the transit area (or on board / in police custody) for less than 24 hours; you cannot collect bags or leave the transit area.
  • Any other New Zealand airport has no transit area: you need a Visitor Visa or an NZeTA that lets you enter New Zealand.
  • Waivers (Immigration Regulations 2010 Sch 1) include: a current New Zealand visa of another class; travelling from Australia; onward destination Australia with a current Australian visa; Australian permanent residents.
