Route summary

Embassy visa

No Monaco visa of its own – a Schengen visa is required

Somali passport holders need a short-stay Schengen visa (type C) to visit Monaco, which is reached through France; Monaco has no visa of its own.

Conditions

  • Monaco is not in the Schengen area but has no border controls with France: you arrive via France (e.g. Nice airport) and the Schengen entry rules apply.
  • A Schengen visa is valid for the whole Schengen area: up to 90 days in any 180 days.
  • Monaco's official guidance: apply at the embassy or consulate of the Schengen country that will be your entry point to Europe; once you hold the Schengen visa, a visit to Monaco needs no additional formalities.
  • Apply where you legally live, no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel; an appointment may be needed.
  • If you already hold a valid residence permit or long-stay visa issued by a Schengen country, you can visit other Schengen countries for up to 90 days in 180 without a new visa (Schengen Convention art. 21).
  • Fingerprints are taken when you apply (some exemptions) and your entry is recorded in the EES at the border.

Business visits to Monaco

Not verified yet (not yet covered). We haven't verified the business rules for Somali passport holders, and we don't publish rules we haven't checked against an official source. A rule that is awaiting verification or not yet covered is not a negative visa decision: it only means we haven't confirmed it on an official source yet. Until then, see monservicepublic.gouv.mc.

Transit through Monaco

Option 1
No airport – via Schengen neighbour (France) Conditional eligibilityTransit (changing flights in Monaco)

No airport: you reach Monaco via France (Nice), so Schengen rules apply (not from an official source)

Unofficial source – not verified

This rule is not from an official Monaco government source. It is based on a secondary reference source (dict.dyimin.com). Confirm with the embassy or the official immigration authority before you travel.

The World Visa Encyclopedia (dict.dyimin.com) says: “Transit/Transfer Monaco does not possess an independent commercial international airport and does not operate an international airport airside transit area. Specifically, this requires a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C), the advance travel authorization required for visa-exempt nationals once ETIAS is implemented, or other valid Schengen entry eligibility.” Not from an official Monaco government source; based on the World Visa Encyclopedia (dict.dyimin.com), a single unofficial reference site. Low confidence, not verified - confirm with your airline before travel.
