Common tourist traps and how to avoid them

Scams and risky spots named in official travel advice for Serbia, in our own words.

  1. Pickpockets at airports, transport and service stations

How it works: Pickpockets work tourist areas, airports, public transport and motorway service stations; criminals may assume foreigners carry lots of cash.

How to avoid it: Keep valuables secure and don't carry large amounts of cash.

  2. Unregistered taxis

How it works: Only registered taxis show a municipal registration number next to the cab number.

How to avoid it: Use registered taxis or call a radio taxi instead of hailing one.

Areas flagged in official advice

  • Unexploded landmines and bombs from 1999 remain in some mountain areas north and east of Kosovo โ€“ keep to marked roads (FCDO)

Official advice: FCDO: no areas advised against.

Optional travel offers

Some links are affiliate links. Booking through them costs you nothing extra, and a small commission helps pay MyVisaPortโ€™s ongoing hosting and maintenance costs and keeps the site free of banner ads. We only list services we think are useful, and they never affect the visa information we publish. These offers are not part of the visa guidance above and are never used to rank routes. How partner links work

Verify with the embassy before you book. Visa rules change without notice. We link every rule to its official source and last checked it on 2 Nov 2026, but the embassy, official e-visa portal and your airline have the final say.
